THOMPSON PARK MINIATURE RAILWAY, BURNLEY -  NEEDS YOU!

The floods between Boxing Day and New Year have hit the railway heavily, with over the quarter of the railway covered in silt washed in by floods. Ballast, the stones that help hold the track in place, has been contaminated or washed away and now needs to be renewed, along with the wooden sleepers which have suffered from resting underwater for such a significant period of time.

Our dedicated volunteers have been working three days a week in order to clear the railway of silt and renew the ballast, but the sheer scale of the works required means that progress is slow.

We are asking that if any members of the society would volunteer some of their time on either Wednesdays, Saturdays or Sundays, their help would be more than appreciated by the membership of the railway.

We can offer payment in brews and biscuits!

Please contact Mike Bailey via secretary@sevenandaquarter.org  in the first instance with a contact e mail or telephone No. and these will be forwarded to Mike.

Many members will have seen the photo of the flooding in the gallery and with approx. 1 KM of track it is a large undertaking. The Society does not normally get such pleas for help but speed in sorting this out is important as the club has taken on a large  commitment, with the proposal to hold a 7 ¼ AGM here in a couple of years’ time.
