Frame painting Red or Black

Would someone be kind enough to tell me what colour I should paint the frames of my 71/4 Hunslet inside and out please any advice on the type of paint would be appreciated

It's personal preference really, but a lot get painted red as it helps to see what goes on inside. Black tends to obscure things. White get dirty too quickly.

I have yet to find a red that I'm truly happy with, they all seem to need too many coats to get proper cover. Old fashioned Humbrol seems a little better than most. Always use a good primer underneath, I use a zinc-chromate anti-rust one.

Frames and buffer beams are usually painted signal red. The RAL number is 3001. The choice of which kind of paint is up to you. On my Thomas two variant I have used aerosols: first grey primer, then RAL 3001 filled to order by a local paint supplier to the motor trade industry. As the forum won't accept my photo without the text going berserk ( why is that??) I've put it in the gallery.
