Wagon chassis

Hi.I want to build several chassis for use with different 7 1/4 bodies such as 5 plank wagon or saxa salt. Is there an optimum size that would suit multiple uses. Regards richard 5254

It really a case of 'do your own thing' Rich. I wouldn't exceed about 600mm width though, that is pretty much a max.

Richard, if you are planning scale models of standard gauge wagons (and your reference to Saxa Salt suggests that you are) then a Railway Clearing House (RCH) standard 10' wheelbase underframe is the answer. I don't have a drawing immediately to hand, but if you can't find one anywhere on the net, I'll find one in one of my old model railway mags. It's the sort of thing that got itself illustrated fairly frequently between the 1930s and the early 1960s so I'm sure I can turn one up!
