Hunslet 7 1/4 G Valve setting etc

Gentlemen, Please see the attached Milner part drawings I have tried and tried to set up the eccentrics and expansion link arms only to find I was 180' out but got there in the end, However, the Slide valve seems to hit each side of the valve chest, and thus the crank is unable to revolve a full revolution, the valve has been made accurately to the Milner detail, The question - Am I going to muck things up if I slightly reduce the .375 face of the valve each side so it no longer hits the side of the valve chest, Or can any one suggest how I can resolve the problem, e.g. should I reduce the throw of the eccentrics by bringing them closer together, Any comments would be most helpful. The drawings A to B is the complete movement the slide valve has to travel to open fully each port. I just wondered if I could reduce the flat on the slide valve each side so it would need to travel a shorter distance back and forward , I believe the Milner drawings are Third angle projection, the bottom drawing showing the slide valve over the ports is as per the drawing but Should it be the other way round, " turn by 90 ' " this would mean the ports would open and close each time the valve moved .
